Successes
Ivy has been very active within the Deaf Community for many years. She served as President of the National Hispanic Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and co-chaired its first conference in Boston in 1994. She also was active in establishing the Boston Latino Deaf Association.
Challenges
There are many organizations representing the needs and interests of deaf people. Ivy's challenge is to have everyone work together as one unit and communicate about their common goals and objectives. She feels that one way to do this would be for everyone to become a member of their State Association for the Deaf. Each avenue she travels presents interesting challenges, and she is always happy to meet them.
Advice to Horace Mann Students
"Set your goals and work step by step to achieve them. Be patient. Work hard and be prepared for life so that you will have many options once you graduate from high school."
