Successes

Father Joseph Bruce has many successes to his credit, but he is particularly proud of these three: the mainstreamed education he earned both in high school and college; learning to read and write Spanish, which he uses often when interacting with Hispanic people; and the recognition he has earned as being someone who can take a disorganized office and completely restore order making things much easier for everyone to do their work.

Challenges

Father Bruce welcomes the challenge of finding ways to understand other people not only on a surface level, but at a very deep level so he really gets to know them well.

Advice to Horace Mann Students

“I have two things to say to all the students from Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The first thing is that if you use your sense of wonder about how life will unfold for you, it will never be boring.

The second thing is that if you want to remain forever young, you must be optimistic, active, perceptive, and smile a lot!
